Frequently asked questions

What’s the difference between Tier 1 and Tier 2?

Tier 1 (Brand Audit & Refresh) is a simple identity package that’s designed to be an entry point for businesses unsure if they want a full package.

Tier 2 (Credibility Reset) includes everything in Tier 1 plus brand strategy and a website rework that fits their brand. It’s geared towards businesses that have a solid foundation, but have outgrown their current brand strategy and are ready for a reset.

How much do your services cost?

The two main packages start at $1,020 for Tier 1 and $3,145 for Tier 2, with a monthly Brand Systems Retainer available after at $250/mo.

Full pricing can be found on my Services page.

Do you offer payment plans?

Typical payment for my services is split into two or three installments. The first is due upon signing, and the second and third are due upon completion of project milestones.

Ongoing Brand Support is billed monthly.

What’s included in the Brand Systems Retainer, and who is it for?

The Brand Systems Retainer includes monthly check-ins, ongoing support, and one free asset request per month. Any additional assets are billed separately, starting at $150. The Brand Systems Retainer is for businesses who have already undergone a Tier 1 or Tier 2 engagement and would like ongoing support to keep their brand operating.

Can I customize my package?

Yes, you can. When you receive your proposal, you’ll be given an option to add as many additional services to your package as you want. They will not be included in your bundled discount, however.

You can also request a custom package or individual services, but it won’t come with the bundled discount included in the curated packages.

Do prices change based on project complexity?

The price of individual services doesn’t change, but there are potential markups depending on a few specific requests.

If a project requires me to travel outside of the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area, a flat rate of $50 will be applied. If a project requires me to stay on site longer than two hours, an additional hourly rate of $50 will be applied.

Rush requests are subject to availability and carry a 30% rush fee.

What happens after I submit the intake form?

At the end of the form will be a link to schedule a free consultation where I’ll learn more about your needs and the available options before a proposal is sent. After which, a kickoff document detailing the next steps of the project will be emailed to you.

How long does a typical project take?

Tier 1 projects aim to be completed 2 - 4 weeks from the kickoff date, while Tier 2 projects typically take 5 - 8 weeks to complete.

Completion time can also vary based on additional services or requests.

How many rounds of revisions do I get?

For each deliverable, you get two free rounds of revisions. After that, each round is $75 per request.

What do you need from me to get started?

There are a few items that will help keep the project moving:

  • Any pre-existing brand assets currently in use (even outdated ones)
  • 2-3 examples of brands or sites you admire, and why
  • Any existing photos, reviews/testimonials, quotes, or written copy that can be put on the website
  • Names and roles of anyone else who needs to review or approve deliverables
  • Preferred contact method and typical response time for feedback
  • Access to website hosting/CMS, domain registrar, or a plan for how site changes will be published (ONLY NEEDED WITH THE WEBSITE PACKAGE)
Do we meet in person, over video, or both?

That depends on what you’re most comfortable with. However, any traveling beyond the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area, even for meetings, will carry the same flat $50 fee.

How does the deposit work?

All proposals, invoices, and payments are processed through Anchor.

Do you build websites, or just design them?

I’ll help build readable and brand-consistent websites for your business using WordPress, Squarespace, Wix, or any similar tools you might have access to.

Complex UX Design and Research is out of scope and will be referred to a specialist within my network.

Will you write the copy for my website, or do I need to provide it?

That is up to you. If you would like me to write the copy, I am comfortable doing so. However, if you would prefer the website be communicated in your own voice, that is alright with me too. There is no additional charge either way.

Do you handle ongoing social media posting?

Ongoing social media work is not included in the Brand Systems Retainer and will be referred out to a specialist.

Can you animate a mascot or character for my brand?

Mascot and character design and animation is out of scope of services and will be referred to a specialist.

What kind of custom development or coding can you do?

For websites, custom coding is not included. The extent of my experience in that arena is purely vibe-coded, which I would not advise for a professional project. If you need custom coding for your websites, that work will be outsourced to a specialist.

What is the extent of motion graphics that you provide?

Simple, contained animation only: short animated logos and reusable graphics. Character animation, complex particle/effects work, or detailed infographic-style animated explainers are referred to a specialist.

If something’s outside your scope, can you still help me find someone?

Absolutely! VHDW is part of a network of freelance specialists that help each other find clients. If something is out of my scope, I’ll likely already have the name of a specialist that can help you, and I’m happy to make an introduction.

What kind of businesses do you typically work with?

My services are aimed at businesses that are growing or on the cusp of change.

Tier 1 is aimed at businesses that started their operations with homemade assets and are ready to start changing their image, but aren’t sure about a full commitment yet.

Tier 2 is aimed at businesses that are ready for a full overhaul and have (or want) an established web presence.

Do you work with nonprofits?

I have a strong history of working with nonprofits and love giving back to the community. However, pro bono/reduced-rate work is not included in my services.

Do you work with clients outside the Raleigh-Durham area?

I am willing to work with clients outside the Raleigh-Durham area. However, any traveling is billed at a $50 rate outside the local radius, and on-site time is billed at $50/hour beyond the first two hours.

Do you work with startups that don’t have a brand yet, or only existing businesses?

I am open to working with any startup that can afford my services. Tier 1 works well as an entry point for businesses who want a cheaper option.

What happens after my project is delivered?

After your project is delivered, you’ll have the option to sign up for a Brand Systems Retainer at a rate of $250/mo, which includes monthly check-ins, brand support, and one free asset request per month.

Can I come back later for small updates without signing up for a retainer?

You are allowed to come back for any individual services you’d like, but they won’t come with the ongoing brand support included in the retainer.

Do you offer ongoing video or social content production?

While I can provide brand introduction and highlight videos upon request, ongoing video content and social media management is not included in my services and will be referred out to a specialist.

How do I know which tier is right for me?

Filling out the client intake form under “Get a Quote” helps me understand your budget and project needs, which will allow me to help you find the right agreement for you.

What’s the difference between filling out the intake form and requesting a quote?

The intake form is mandatory before booking a consultation. After meeting, I will send you a proposal for a specific service based on your budget and project needs.

Can I book a call before committing to anything?

Of course! It’s a mandatory part of my process that all new clients get a free consultation before signing a proposal.
